Gutters
Seamless Gutter Installation & Repair for North Shore Homes
Properly installed gutters protect your foundation, siding, and landscaping from water damage. IToch Roofing installs and repairs seamless gutters across the North Shore.
Why Gutters Are Critical — and What Makes a Good Gutter System
Gutters are one of the most underappreciated components of a home's exterior. Their job is simple but essential: collect rainwater and snowmelt from the roof surface and direct it away from the home's foundation, siding, and landscaping. When that job is done poorly — or not done at all — the consequences are serious and expensive. Water pooling against a foundation can cause basement flooding, foundation cracking, and long-term structural damage. Water cascading over a clogged gutter saturates the soil against the house and can migrate through foundation walls. Water splashing back off the ground soaks the bottom courses of siding, causing rot, paint failure, and mold. A properly functioning gutter system prevents all of this.
IToch Roofing installs seamless aluminum gutters, fabricated on-site to the exact length of each run. Seamless gutters are superior to sectional gutters — the kind assembled from pre-cut pieces — because they eliminate the joints that are the most common failure point in sectional systems. Each joint in a sectional gutter is a potential leak, and the sealants used at those joints degrade over time. A seamless gutter has no joints along its length — only at the corners and downspout connections — dramatically reducing maintenance requirements and extending the service life of the system.
We install gutters in standard K-style profiles in 5-inch and 6-inch sizes. The correct size depends on your roof area, pitch, and local rainfall intensity. Many homes in the North Shore area were originally fitted with 4-inch or undersized 5-inch gutters that overflow during heavy rain events — a problem we commonly encounter when replacing gutters on older homes. Upgrading to properly sized gutters stops the overflow and the associated damage to siding and foundation plantings.
Aluminum is the standard material for residential gutters because it strikes the best balance of cost, durability, and appearance. It does not rust, accepts paint well, and is available in a wide range of colors to match or complement your home's exterior. For homeowners seeking a premium option, we also install copper gutters — beautiful, extremely durable, and age to a distinctive patina over time. Copper is popular on high-end North Shore homes where it complements the architectural character.
Proper installation is about more than hanging a gutter on the fascia. Gutters must be pitched correctly — sloped toward the downspouts at a rate that moves water without creating visible sag in the center. Hangers must be spaced correctly to support the weight of water and debris without the gutter pulling away from the fascia. Downspouts must be sized, positioned, and extended to discharge water well away from the foundation. We also evaluate the fascia condition when replacing gutters — rotted or damaged fascia must be repaired or replaced before new gutters are installed, because gutters attached to damaged wood will fail prematurely.
We offer gutter guards for homeowners who want to minimize cleaning frequency. We can discuss the options and help you decide whether they make sense for your tree coverage and maintenance preferences. Call 224-619-5570 for a free gutter estimate.
Our Gutter Installation Process
Measurement & Assessment
We measure all roof runs, assess current drainage patterns and problem areas, evaluate fascia condition, and determine correct gutter sizing and downspout placement.
Fascia Preparation
We inspect and repair or replace damaged fascia boards before installation. Gutters are only as solid as what they are attached to — we do not skip this step.
Seamless Gutter Fabrication
Gutters are fabricated on-site to the exact length of each run using a roll-forming machine. No joints, no pre-cut sections, no seams along the length.
Installation & Downspout Routing
Gutters are hung at correct pitch with properly spaced hangers, corners and end caps are sealed, downspouts are installed and extended to discharge away from the foundation.
Why Choose IToch Roofing for Gutters
- ✓Seamless On-Site Fabrication: Every gutter run is fabricated to exact length on your property — no joints, no seams, no pre-cut sections that leave vulnerable connections.
- ✓Correct Sizing for Your Roof: We calculate the right gutter size for your specific roof area and rainfall conditions. Undersized gutters are a common problem we fix on every North Shore home we service.
- ✓Fascia Assessment Included: We inspect your fascia before installation and address any rot or damage. Gutters attached to healthy wood last significantly longer.
- ✓Complete Drainage Planning: We plan downspout placement and extension to ensure water discharges well clear of your foundation, not just over the edge and into your window wells.
- ✓Full-Service Exterior Contractor: As a full-service roofing and exterior contractor, we coordinate gutters with roof replacements, siding work, and fascia repairs — everything done together by one team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between seamless and sectional gutters?
Sectional gutters are assembled from pre-cut pieces that are joined together. Every joint is a potential leak point, and the sealants used at those joints degrade over time. Seamless gutters are fabricated in one continuous piece to the exact length of the run — the only joints are at corners and downspout connections. Seamless gutters leak less, require less maintenance, and last longer.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
Gutters should be cleaned at minimum twice a year — once in late spring after tree seeds and helicopter pods have fallen, and once in late fall after leaf drop. Homes with heavy tree coverage may need cleaning three to four times per year. Clogged gutters overflow, pulling away from the fascia and defeating the entire purpose of the system.
What size gutters does my home need?
Most residential homes use 5-inch K-style gutters. Homes with large roof areas, steep pitches, or wide overhangs may benefit from 6-inch gutters, which handle significantly higher water volume. We calculate the appropriate size during your free estimate based on your specific roof geometry.
Should I get gutter guards?
Gutter guards reduce the frequency of cleaning by blocking leaves and debris from entering the gutter. No guard completely eliminates the need for cleaning, but quality guards can significantly reduce it. Whether they are worth the investment depends on how much tree coverage your property has and how you feel about gutter maintenance. We can discuss your specific situation and give you an honest recommendation.
Can you install gutters at the same time as a new roof?
Yes — and we recommend it when both are needed. Coordinating gutter installation with a roof replacement allows us to properly integrate the two systems, ensure the drip edge and gutters work together correctly, and complete both projects efficiently without double mobilization costs.
